Dr.Alshamsi is the director of VPS oncology services in the UAE. He is also the President of the Emirates Oncology Society. He is the first graduate of the Sheikh Khalifa distinguished physician scholarship program 2012-2014. 
Dr.Alshamsi holds triple specialty board certifications in medical oncology from UK, Canada, and the USA. Dr.Alshamsi completed his bachelor of science and bachelor of medicine from Cork university- The national university of Ireland with honors in 2005, he then completed his internal medicine residency training at McMaster University in Canada followed by medical oncology fellowship 2011, he then completed a subspecialty combined fellowship in gastrointestinal and Palliative oncology in 2013. He then joined MD Anderson Cancer Center as a consultant oncologist and assistant professor at the University of Texas from June 2014 to Feb. 2017. He is an associate professor of oncology at the University of Sharjah. 
Dr.Alshamsi has published in prostate, lung, breast, and more extensively in Colorectal, hepatobiliary, and gastric cancer. His special interest is utilizing next-generation sequencing in clinical practice to improve patients outcomes. He is one of the world's pioneers in COVID-19 and Cancer with publications in JAMA Oncology and The oncologist. His current research is focused on reforming oncology care in the UAE to improve patient outcomes.
